Last week I was in Nagoya, Japan, for the Asian Futsal Club Championship. This because the Thai champion, Chonburi/Blue Wave with 7 players of the national team in their squad, was one of the participants.
In the group stage they played 2-2 in the opening game against Ardus Tashkent. In the second game they beat Asian Champion Sanaye Giti Pasand from Iran 4-3. The last match in the group stage was against Al Sadd and Thai star player Suphawut Thueanklang scored the winning goal in the last minute.
In the semi final they beat Shenzhen Nanling Tielang FC 5-1. The other semi final was Sanaye Giti Pasan against Japanese champion Nagoya Oceans 3-2. Therefore Chonburi/Blue Wave would meet again Sanye Gita Pasand in the final.
After 0-1 half time score it was again Suphawut who made the equalizer in the last minute. In the extra time nobody scored so penalty shoots had to prove who would be the champion. Already the second penalty from the Iranian team was stopped by the goalkeeper of Chonburi/Bluewave and when the third player also missed the penalty, it was Chonburi player Nurse who made the winning goal. A fair result given the course of the game.
Thailand showed again that they have a lot of potential in the upcoming years. Hopefully everyone realizes that and wants to be together in the future.
