Again Spain won the final but it wasn’t that certain because it was only 34 seconds before the end that they scored the equalizer. Russia, who was alternating good with bad games during the tournament made it difficult for Spain, who grew during the tournament. But in extra time Spain scored the 1-2 and in the last second 1-3.
During the tournament and after the final, Javier Lozano and me had some brainstorm sessions about the Futsal game in the future with the responsible people from UEFA and guests from FIFA.
For example we saw that playing with the 5th player can be attractive but also boring. Furthermore we saw some tackles which don’t belong in this technical game. My personal conclusion is that we must change some rules to make the game more attractive. Suggestions were to make the goals bigger and prohibit tackles. But the end conclusion will be made by the responsible people from UEFA and FIFA.
Very positive was that the record number of spectators at a game was broken: 14.000 people!
My wish for the next EC, which will be held in 2014 in Belgium, is that this record again will be broken. At the photo you see me with the Belgium National Futsal Coach Alain Dopche in Zagreb. Well, so far the EC Futsal.
The rest of this week I will stay in Holland with my wife. This Sunday we will fly to Thailand for the next challenge: the World Championships Futsal which will be held from 2-18 November in Bangkok.
I will let you know how our trip was and ofcourse our first impressions of this metropolis…
