Various countries where I’ve worked, like Iran/Holland/Thailand, have a good competition and therefore a good national team. But still there are differences between these countries. Like in Holland, Futsal is still an amateur sport. Players can play both Football and Futsal. It’s a pitty because the real step to professional Futsal stays behind. Iran and Thailand are good examples for me: from a city orientated competition to a nation wide competition with players who choose for Futsal.
Here in Malta it’s totally the other way around. I recognise my start in Holland where we didn’t get paid and didn’t sleep in hotels before international games. Still I hope to get a little bit more support this year from the association so that we can give the Futsal an own identity and to be able to compete seriously with other countries.
January is a good month: a double friendly in Northern-Ireland and the qualification tournament in Sweden. But important is what will happen after that. Can we still play friendlies or will it come to a stop? Ofcourse I don’t hope for the last.
