In the groupstage we won 4-0. In the half final Vietnam played against Indonesia and won 3-1. We played against Myanmar in the other half final but were on all fronts too strong; 8-1. So, as expected, the final was Thailand-Vietnam.
In the past year we had already played four times against them on different tournaments and we won all of them. We know each other very well so no surprises anymore. Vietnam is conditionally strong, we are technically better. The first 10 minutes it stayed 0-0; Vietnam looking for the counter and we were making the game. I only warned the players for their quickness in the counters but they were very alert on it.
When we scored 1-0 and 2-0, Vietnam had to do something and this gave us a lot of opportunities. It became even 3-0 before half time and I felt that we were going to win but in Futsal you never know. Vietnam started quickly after half time playing with the flying goalkeeper but we defended very good and we scored 4-0. Because Vietnam kept on playing power play we quickly scored 5, 6 and 7-0. Finally Vietnam scored a goal out of a counter but we made the last one; end score 8-1.
It was a tough and rough game with 7 yellow and two red cards. This shows that Futsal becomes more physical and more emotional. My tip to AFC is to support the referees more in their education and development. Otherwise we will have icehockey games in the future and that’s not good for the image of this technical game.
Now it’s time for a short break and charging the battery for 2014. Wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
